Rehousing dachsies
Our website has enquiries from many Dachshund lovers who sometimes want dogs of all different ages. This gives us a unique opportunity to rehouse dogs that find they need a new home.
If for whatever reason you can no longer keep your Dachshund, let us know as we have a list of people seeking an older dog. Or if you want to join the list, email us.
As soon as our breeding facility is completed we will have a proportion dedicated to welfare and - at this time - we will be able to take dachsies in and have them join our family for as long as it takes match them to a new family of their very own.
We'll post dachshies needing new homes on this page, so people seeking an adult Dachshund are encouraged to visit this page from time to time.
Is a rehouse dog for you?
Adopting dogs in need is without any doubt one of the most rewarding things our family has ever done. That said, it has also been one of the most challenging things and accordingly some words of caution are offered here. While there are no hard and fast rules, there are some things you might consider when contemplating offering your home to an older dog.
Broadly speaking, people with young families should probably consider a puppy or young dog with a well-known background rather than an older rehouse-dog. The reason I say this is that older dogs in need of rehousing sometimes come with baggage. If you are uncertain of the dog's history, it is a lot to ask a young family to take on what might be a challenging situation. And if the older dog is not used to children and can't adapt, then heartbreaking decisions need to be made and the dog could face yet another rehouse.
For people with no children at home, a rehouse dog could be one of the most special things you can ever experience. Dogs seem to know that you are their second chance and a loyalty and trust can develop that is indescribable. This is what emerges as you give heaps of love and patience and nuture 'the dog within'. And in cases where the dog has not had a great time of things, it is pure joy to see them blossom as their winter turns to spring.
