Dachshund Breeder in Gippsland Victoria Australia
Welfare
Microchip initiative
Dachshund Australia holds dear the notion that 'a dog is a dog for life'. To give meaning to this we seek to take responsibility for the pets we breed for life by inviting our puppy families to list Dachshund Australia as the second Microchip contact.
If we are contacted, we will set about notifying the owner immediately. In the unlikely event that a Dachshund Australia dachsie is 'dumped' we will welcome it home to us.
We are also working at an industry level to determine if a 'pound/deathrow microchip register' can be formed that lists the original microchip owners (ie the breeders). The idea is that the register would have to be checked before any dog could be destroyed and participating breeders notified if one of their dog has appeared.
Dachshund Australia is an accredited member of the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA), an organisation committed to care and excellence in the companion animal industry.
Our welfare standards
Nothing is more distressing to our family than hearing about animal cruelty. The happiness of our dogs is the closest thing to our hearts and if our dogs are not happy then we would shift mountains to make sure they were happy.
As breeders we comply with the relevant authority, which is the local council. They are charged with the responsibility of enforcing compliance with the DPI Code of Practice for Breeding and Rearing Estabishments. As accredited members of PIAA, we also abide by the PIAA National Code of Practice.
All our dogs are loved family members; each feels special and has the highest standard of attention and care and enjoy a full life with fun, company, variety and activity.
We are fortunate to have the services of an excellent Vet who is at the end of the phone 24/7 (and for some reason we seem to need him usually in the middle of the night or on weekends!).
